Being sick in the holidays has it's advantages, it gives you time to stay at home and do those jobs you've been meaning to do, but just haven't had the time, .... updating the website is just one of those jobs :-)
Website
The building of the new website is coming along, feel free have a look around. We now have an updated version of the old Project Help page, links for most of the topics being covered in semester 1 and I have also included recommended reads for K-2 - years 3-6 recommendations are on the way....,
Premier's Reading Challenge Update
We have made a good start this year. 244 students have registered so far with half the students having read at least 10 Challenge books and 30 students having finished the challenge already :-)
The reason I love the Premier's Reading Challenge is that it is a challenge! Students are challenged to read authors and types of books that they might not otherwise have chosen. It encourages them to go beyond their comfort zone and that's not a bad thing...
Author & Illustrator Visits
Last year we ran a very successful writer's festival for students in years 3 - 6. Debra Abela, Christopher Cheng and Sarah Davis inspired us all. This year I would like to give all the students the opportunity to be inspired.
For the K - 3 students we are hoping to have an author and an illustrator come to share and for the year 4 - 6 classes I am looking into having a writer come and work with the students. This will give the older students more of an opportunity to talk to the author and receive feedback on some of their own work.
Hope you have had a good break, even if it was only the public holidays.
